Students and staff at Bessie Carmichael Elementary School love their Friday morning celebrations with school mascot "Bessie the Unicorn" - a tradition at the school for over a decade.

Every Friday morning for more than a decade, the Bessie Carmichael Elementary School community has come together to celebrate its three founding principles: "Be Safe, Respectful, and Responsible."
During the community meeting the school celebrates students who have earned “Bessie Bees,” and has a dance party with the school mascot, "Bessie the Unicorn."

"A positive school climate is important to us at Bessie Carmichael Elementary School," says Amy Youngs, the school's Instructional Reform Facilitator. "We prepare for and focus on building a positive school climate and joyous learning community so that students feel safe and secure enough to build trusting relationships with other students and Bessie Carmichael staff."

The staff and students love the school's Friday dance party. The students especially look forward to it and can’t wait to dance with Bessie the mascot.
