Check out SFUSD's DonorsChoose projects to celebrate World Teachers' Day

To celebrate our SFUSD teachers on World Teachers’ Day, we’re sharing our partnership with national nonprofit DonorsChoose, which we started last year with our non-profit partner Spark *SF Public Schools. With DonorsChoose, SFUSD teachers can tap into a robust network of donors to help fund classroom projects that improve student experiences. Since the partnership was announced, SFUSD teachers have raised about $9.7 million and fully funded over 13,000 projects spanning across 130 schools.

Thanks to this partnership, crowdfunders have been able to help teachers provide more for their students -- particularly in the time of distance learning -- as well with professional development. Through her funded project, Mrs. Lau from Gordon J Lau Elementary School was able to provide headphones with mics to her first grade students. “I can hear students reading and answering questions much more clear now,” Mrs. Lau says in her most recent update on her project page. “I no longer have to read the children's lips and make guesses of what they are trying to say among the 22 little Zoom boxes. As difficult as Distance Learning is for my little ones, these headphones are making a difference in their learning and my teaching.”

There are currently 129 open project requests from SFUSD teachers on DonorsChoose. Projects range from providing age-appropriate anti-racism books to Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT) gift cards so English learners can access digital resources about civics. Donations for selected projects will be matched. Find out more about ongoing and funded projects by SFUSD teachers on DonorsChoose and read more about our partnership.

Thank you to our SFUSD teachers and to teachers all over the world for your leadership!
